We are dedicated to promoting best practices, encouraging continuous professional development, and strengthening the recognition of our profession as an essential part of heritage management and communication in the region.
At I-PAL, we believe that the interpretation of natural and cultural heritage enriches our lives by promoting experiences that convey knowledge, deepen understanding, and provoke reflections that establish an emotional and intellectual connection between visitors and their surroundings.
As a communication-focused profession, interpretation plays a fundamental role in revealing the meaning and value of heritage, encouraging decision-making that benefits the immense diversity of natural and cultural riches that constitute our heritage.
I-PAL aims to promote heritage interpretation as a profession firmly rooted in research, supported by practice standards, backed by training programmes, and organisationally represented to encourage its continuous development.

I-PAL sets goals aimed at promoting the development of collaborative strategies and encouraging the creation of organizational structures to coordinate efforts for the advancement of Natural and Cultural Heritage Interpretation in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Our focus is on supporting and empowering interpreters by providing them with the necessary tools to strengthen and promote the recognition of their valuable work.
We seek to promote best practices in heritage interpretation and provide a professional community that facilitates the communication of growth and collaboration opportunities. Together, we work to enrich and strengthen heritage interpretation in our region

We promote growth and continuous learning for all, respecting the diversity of cultures, traditions, and opinions, while preserving the unity and impartiality that characterizes Heritage Interpreters.
We facilitate collaboration tools that promote interdisciplinarity in the planning and design of heritage interpretation programs, whether personal or non-personal, thus supporting our members in their pursuit of excellence in this profession.

Campos de acción que orientan el trabajo de I-PAL
Nuestro trabajo se orienta hacia distintos campos de acción que reflejan la diversidad de contextos en los que la interpretación del patrimonio se desarrolla y contribuye a generar conexiones significativas entre las personas, el patrimonio y su entorno.
1. Temáticas del patrimonio
Lo que se interpreta

Naturaleza
Incluye la biodiversidad, los saberes ecológicos, la sostenibilidad y la regeneración, así como la interpretación en áreas protegidas y paisajes culturales. -
Cultura
Comprende la historia, el arte, la memoria, las tradiciones, la gastronomía, las bellas artes y el patrimonio tanto material como inmaterial.
2. Métodos y medios interpretativos

Interpretación interpersonal
Interacciones directas como la guianza, el diálogo interpretativo, la facilitación, la teatralización y otras formas de comunicación personal. -
Medios digitales y multimedia
Recursos visuales, audiovisuales, interactivos y tecnológicos: diseño gráfico, señalética, realidad aumentada y virtual, aplicaciones móviles, inteligencia artificial y otros formatos digitales.

Museos y espacios interpretativos
Ámbitos como museos, jardines botánicos, zoológicos, centros de visitantes y espacios culturales o educativos que desarrollan acciones interpretativas. -
Turismo y comunidades
Prácticas de guianza, ecoturismo, interpretación comunitaria y diseño de circuitos patrimoniales que fomentan la conexión entre visitantes y territorios.

Cómo se diseña

Planificación interpretativa
Determina implicaciones y procesos: alineación institucional, públicos, mensaje, medios y mecánica del proyecto (evaluación incluida). -
Enfoque JEDAI
Aplicación de los principios de justicia, equidad, diversidad, accesibilidad e inclusión en todas las etapas del diseño, la implementación y la evaluación interpretativa.

Cómo se gestiona y fortalece el campo

Gestión institucional
Coordinación de equipos, administración de recursos, evaluación de impacto, sostenibilidad organizativa y liderazgo en espacios interpretativos. -
Formación de intérpretes
Procesos de capacitación continua, mentoría, profesionalización y fortalecimiento de competencias para quienes ejercen la interpretación del patrimonio.
