I-PAL Membership and Affiliation Terms and Conditions

Membership in the Professional Network of Heritage Interpreters of Latin America and the Caribbean (I-PAL) entails full recognition and acceptance of the following terms and conditions. By formalising your membership, you agree to respect and comply with the values, principles, and guidelines of I-PAL, acting with ethics, professionalism, and institutional responsibility.
1. Nature of affiliation and Membership
Affiliation and Membership is voluntary and does not, at any time, constitute any legal, employment, contractual, or other status that implies a formal obligation for the member of the I-PAL Network in civil, labour, commercial, professional, or administrative terms. Once accepted into the I-PAL professional network, each member may voluntarily pay for access to membership benefits or cancel their membership at any time.
2. Membership Benefits
Once your membership is validated and active, you will have access to:

A public professional profile on the I-PAL platform.

Digital certificates and badges according to membership criteria.

A private area to manage your affiliation, memberships, and collaboration.

Participation in events, discounts, and visibility opportunities.

Access to professional resources and collaborative spaces based on membership criteria.

Periodic updates about sector news.
3. Activation and Duration of Membership

Membership is activated upon receipt of payment.

It is valid for one year and renewable.

Members are responsible for keeping their information up to date.

4. Commitments to I-PAL Operational Principles for Professional Members
4.1. Keep Your Professional Profile Updated:

You must keep your personal and professional information on I-PAL current.

Via your I-PAL profile (URL), you can track your interactions with I-PAL and other members.

Customise your profile with a brief description of your work and include a photo or logo.

Add contact details, your organisation’s website, photos, videos, and links to social media and professional pages.
4.2. Actively Participate in Collaborations Aligned with I-PAL’s Mission: This may include:

Promoting unity and collaboration among I-PAL members and other professional organisations by organising or sharing events and topics of interest.

Sharing technical, academic, and training activities to encourage professional development in Heritage Interpretation.

Providing mutual support through mentoring, advice, or project and research collaboration.

Using I-PAL’s tools like the blog, podcast, glossary, and forum to generate content, and engaging actively on social media using #IPALNET and collaborating in networks.
4.3. Promote the Principles of Heritage Interpretation:

Act as an advocate for the principles and foundations of Heritage Interpretation as a solid profession. This includes:

Implementing best practices and demonstrating that heritage interpretation is based on specialised research, evaluation, and ethical standards.

Providing mechanisms for evaluating and certifying interpretive programmes, ensuring their quality and effectiveness.

Promoting recognition of heritage interpretation as a socially responsible and inclusive profession in a respectful and enriching environment.
4.4. Strengthen the Professional Field of Heritage Interpretation:

Contribute to the growth and enrichment of the field. This includes:

Sharing opportunities and knowledge generated by I-PAL and its members.

Contributing to the theoretical and conceptual development of heritage interpretation in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Supporting research that advances knowledge and training processes in the field.
5. Use of Institutional Identity
The I-PAL logo, name, badges, or other graphic elements must be used in accordance with the brand guidelines.
6. Data Protection and Documentation
All member information is confidential and non-transferable.
Documents are available only in the member’s digital folder and will not be sent by email.
I-PAL adheres to security standards for the responsible handling of personal data.
7. Cancellation and Renewal
Members may cancel their membership at any time, without formalities or penalties.
I-PAL reserves the right to suspend membership if conduct is found to breach its principles or harm the network's integrity.
8. Conflict Resolution
Any concerns or disputes will be addressed respectfully and directly with the membership team at: membresias@i-pal.net. Constructive dialogue and mutual agreement are always encouraged.
9. Modifications
I-PAL may update these terms at any time. Changes will be communicated via official channels, and continued membership use will imply acceptance.
